“Whenever a system is really complicated, as in the brain or in an organized community, indeterminacy comes into the picture, not necessarily because of h (Planck’s constant) but because to make a prediction so many things must be known that the stray consequences of studying them will disturb the status quo, which can never therefore be discovered.”

Recently, I got an opportunity to get into the depth of Taoism… both theoretically as well as practically… Yes, I finished just another book on philosophical implications of modern science!
Fritjof Capra, the author of The Turning Point, Uncommon Wisdom and The Web of Life has tried to explore the parallels between Modern Physics and Eastern Mysticism in his book The Tao of Physics.
The book’s central Thesis, that the mystical traditions of the East constitute a coherent philosophical framework within which the most advanced Western theories of the physical world can be accommodated, has not only withstood the test of time but is ever more emphatically endorsed by ongoing experimentation and Research. I would like to share some of the excerpts from this book… Hope u will enjoy these concepts:
- Heisenberg’s saying: It’s probably true that in the history of human thinking the most fruitful developments frequently take place at those points where two different lines of thought meet. These lines may have their roots in quite different parts of human culture, in different times or different cultural environment or different religious traditions: hence if they actually meet, that is, if they are at least so much related to each other that a real interaction can take place, then one may hope that new and interesting developments may follow.
- Human happiness is achieved when one follows the natural order, acting spontaneously and trusting one’s intuitive knowledge.
- In the Chinese view, it’s better to have too little than to have too much, and better to leave things undone than to overdo them, because although one may not get very far this way, one is certain to go in the right direction. Just as the man who wants to go further and further east will end up in the west. Modern Industrial society which is continuously trying to increase the ‘standard of living’ and thereby decreases the quality of life for all it’s member is an eloquent illustration of this ancient Chinese wisdom.
- Ceaseless transformation of all things and situations is considered as the dynamic aspect of all phenomena.
- Whenever you want to achieve anything, you should start with its opposite.
- Be bent and you will remain straight.
- Be vacant and you will remain full.
- All the changes are cyclic.
- We always tend to just react to the situations.
- The process of enlightenment consists merely in becoming what we already are from the beginning.
- Sit quietly, do nothing, spring will come and the grass will grow by itself.
- Actual art is artless.
- The observed system is required to be isolated in order to be defined, yet interacting in order to be observed. In other words: in atomic physics, a scientist cannot play the role of a detached objective observer, but becomes involved in the world he observes to the extent that he influences the properties of the observed objects. In terms of Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle, the two quantities, Particle’s position and its momentum can never be measured simultaneously with precision.
- Quantum theory forces us to see the universe not as a collection of physical object, but rather as a complicated web of relations between the various parts of a unified whole.
- Thing derive their being and nature by mutual dependence and are nothing in themselves.
- The Buddhist doesn’t believe in an independent or separately external world, into whose dynamic forces he could insert himself. The external world and his inner world are for him only two sides of the same fabric, in which the threads of all the forces and all the events, of all forms of consciousness and their objects, are woven into an inseparable net of endless, mutually conditional relations.
- Opposites are ABSTRACT concepts belonging to the realm of thought, but as such they are RELATIVE.
- By the very act of focusing our attention on any one concept, we create its opposite.
- All opposites are polar, and thus a unity: The dynamic unity of polar opposites can be illustrated with the simple example of a circular motion and its projection. Suppose we’ve a ball going around a circle. If this movement is projected onto a screen, it becomes an oscillation between two points. The ball goes round the circle with constant speed, but in the projection it slows down as it reaches the edge, turns around, and then accelerates again only to slow down once more – and so on, in endless cycles. In any projection of that kind, the circular movement will appear as an oscillation between two opposite points, but in the movement itself the opposites are unified and transcended – And this is Dynamic unification of Opposites.
So, how was your sojourn in the realm of TAO??

1. The man who goes alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready… This is self -reliance!
2. Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing.
3. Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning ; )
